Tracie McMillan is a former investigative reporter from New York who has focused on poverty and welfare issues.  She has written for publications such as the New York Times, Harpers, Saveur and Slate and was the managing editor of City Limits magazine and has been recognized for her work by World Hunger Year and the James Beard Foundation.

Her most recent work has been an important first hand investigation into food access in America and the relationship between food and social and economic status.  Her recent “The American Way of Eating: Undercover at Walmart, Applebees, Farm Fields and the Dinner Table” recounts her year of diving into the trenches of migrant labor on farms, working in fast food kitchens and as an employee at Walmart, all the while trying to survive on the same the salaries and work conditions as the subjects of her book
